The platform combines ultra-low power connectivity, sensing, and mixed-signal capabilities with cost-efficient manufacturing, aimed at next-generation edge devices, connectivity products, and Physical AI applications.
GlobalFoundries and RAAAM Memory Technologies are jointly developing next-generation GCRAM memory for GlobalFoundries' FDX platform, aiming to deliver 40% smaller chip area and up to 60% lower power use than standard SRAM memory. SRAM is the basic type of on-chip memory currently used in most processors.
An article on GlobalFoundries' website discusses a Nature Electronics paper from ETH Zurich researchers who designed an RF switch that uses displacement fields and quantum tunneling currents instead of conventional transistor scaling. The research addresses scaling limits in RF switches, where shrinking transistors introduces parasitic capacitance and contact resistance.
GlobalFoundries secured a $1.5 billion credit facility (a pre-arranged loan it can draw on) led by JPMorgan that matures in 2031, expanding the company's borrowing capacity amid strong semiconductor demand.
A Texas federal judge cut a jury's $9.2 million patent infringement verdict against GlobalFoundries down to $1 million, saying the damages calculation by Katana Silicon Technologies was flawed in several ways.
