Recent news
most recent scored articles · the chip is the article’s score · click to openBoeing's defense segment is gaining momentum, with $85 billion in backlog (orders already booked for future delivery) and key programs moving into low-rate production (the initial, limited manufacturing phase before full-scale output begins).
Boeing and the union representing its engineers and technical workers will resume contract talks on September 8, according to the union's announcement on Monday.
Boeing received 30 net orders (new orders minus cancellations) in July worth $3.3 billion, roughly the same as a year earlier even though the overall flow of orders is slowing. The company delivered 53 planes in July, fewer than June, but 10% more than the same month a year ago. A shift toward higher-priced aircraft lifted the value of new orders, and so far this year Boeing is taking in more orders than it ships, both by count (1.3x) and by value (1.7x).
Archer Aviation (ACHR) is expanding beyond electric air taxis into defense, autonomous systems, and AI, anchored by Insitu's existing defense business earning over $200 million a year. A deal with Boeing adds autonomous technology, unmanned aircraft, and airspace management to Archer, along with Boeing taking an equity stake and a board seat so both companies' interests are aligned.
Boeing secured a $131.2 billion order for new F-15 fighters, marking a major comeback for its defense business after the company reported $12 billion in losses and $14 billion in negative free cash flow in 2024.
